Fulton Sheen said, "If we want to remake the world, we must begin by remaking the individual." The question that follows from this very true statement is: "Remade into what?" Reflecting deeper, "Remake the world into whose image and likeness?" That is the ultimate question of humanity that takes us to the very beginning of creation.
The Battle for Mankind
And this has been the battle since the fall of Lucifer. He wanted to be like God, but on his own terms -- essentially, he refused to receive the gifts God wished to give Him that would make Lucifer and all the angels into the likeness of God. Lucifer's pride arrogantly led him to claim that he could be like God by the powers God gave him. Basically, he thought he figured out God and given the infinite capacity of his intellect, he didn't need God anymore. He just needed no restraint.
Well, we know how the story developed from there and after Lucifer was cast down with the myriads of fallen angels he persuaded to follow him in his rebellion, he was permitted by God to take his battle to earth and specifically to the crowning of God's creation, mankind. And Lucifer hates our bodies! Why? Because man and woman are made in the image and likeness of God and anyway he can distort and destroy that he will!
The Tale of Two Trees
The battle began in a garden. And Lucifer launched his assault on Adam and Eve over what they would put in their bodies. It was the perfect garden which contained everything Adam and Eve (and all of humanity) would need for their health, their wholeness and strength. And at the center of the garden were two trees: the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
And since the creation of Adam and Eve, it is interesting to note that the battle over life and death is over which tree from the garden we eat from. Lucifer's war is about tempting humanity to accept his lie that if we rebel against God and eat from the tree of the knowledge (science) of good and evil, we will be like God -- given enough time and non-interference -- through our "progress" of science. And Lucifer's end game is to build a counterfeit kingdom with humanity under his ultimate control via a scientific dictatorship. Just look at today...no secret there!
What's the point here? The point is that the battle for mankind's soul comes through our bodies. Just as redemption came through the Word becoming flesh, so does everything else. That's what the sacraments reveal to us. We are embodied spirits and what happens to our bodies affects our soul. Our ability to know anything comes through our body. We are psycho-somatic beings. What happens to our bodies affects our mind (food and drugs) and what happens to our mind affects our bodies (e.g. anxiety).
The Word vs. the Anti-Word
Christ is the Word. Lucifer is the anti-Word. He is the ultimate counterfeiter. So when it comes to our physical health, which has a direct affect on our mental health, we should always be on guard against any claims that natural medicine is somehow dangerous when it is precisely from nature that that God gave us everything we need to make us whole (which is what the word "health" means, wholeness). Modern western medicine (allopathic) does not have the ultimate goal to heal, but to "manage" or "treat". And in the majority of cases, it demonizes (ironically) the natural remedies created by God that are intending to actually heal our bodies and make them stronger without adverse side-effects.
Another great irony is that the pharmaceutical world calls natural remedies that come from God's creation "witchcraft" while ignoring the fact that pharmaceuticals (prescriptions drugs, etc.) which derive from man's manipulation of natural chemicals comes from a greek word pharmakeia, which means "sorcery".
The battle is over our bodies because whoever controls the body will control the mind -- it is a battle between the Incarnation of Jesus Christ extended in humanity or the anti-Incarnation of anti-Christ extended into humanity -- the City of God vs. the City of Man to put it in the language of St. Augustine.
And the Church can no longer play spectator as the world population is more and more being brought under a medical tyranny . . . all under the guise of "public health". Now the end game becomes clearer as there is talk of health passports (led by the UK -- see https://youtu.be/fLuaSEXLpM8) and universal health tracking apps that will eventually determine who can travel, go to movies, restaurants, or enter and purchase from supermarkets, etc. No, this isn't science fiction.
WE NEED AN INTEGRAL VISION OF MAN
It was the call of Pope St. Paul VI in Humanae Vitae which was later echoed by St. John Paul II in his revolutionary Theology of the Body:
"Every . . . problem regarding human life, is to be considered beyond partial perspectives . . . in the light of an integral vision of man." (Humanae Vitae, n. 7)
So, we cannot ignore the importance of our health as it is the gateway to our mind, which informs what we choose. And we were created for FREEDOM.
"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery."Galatians 5:1
